Is vinyl a good fit for Huntsville weather and soil?
Vinyl suits our damp summers well. It does not rot, does not feed mildew the way wood can, and does not need staining. A hose and mild soap handle most green film in shady spots. That saves real weekend time compared with wood.
Vinyl has limits, and you should hear them up front. Thin, cheap panels can flex in strong storm winds or crack in a hard cold snap. Posts in red clay still need to be set deep in solid concrete, because a vinyl privacy panel catches wind like a sail. Hot summer sun also makes vinyl expand a little, so a good product and correct fitting matter. Darker colors can warm and move more than white.
If you like the look but worry about cost, compare it with wood fencing, which tends to cost less to start and more to maintain.
